Matt Damon was recently hailed as the sexiest man alive by People magazine for 2007. The 37-year old actor was surprised with such honor. He said in a published letter to People, You gave an aging suburban dad the ego boost of a lifetime. The Sexiest Man Alive is an annual feature of People magazine which started in 1985 with Mel Gibson. It is billed as a benchmark of male beauty, with the likes of Sean Connery, Harrison Ford, Pierce Brosnan, Richard Gere, Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Denzel Washington, and George Clooney topping the list for the past years. And now, with Damon being named as the sexiest man alive, the humble celebrity only got these words to say: Unfortunately, after all those years out on the trail, the meet and greets, the fund raisers, the stump speeches, I ve finally come to terms with the fact that this is a mantle I wasn t meant to hold. A prolific actor and an award-winning screenwriter, Damon s first movie role came in 1988 when he was sixteen. It was in the romantic comedy Mystic Pizza. He next appeared in small roles before landing big parts in Geronimo: An American Legend and Courage Under Fire. But his big break came when he and his close friend, actor Ben Affleck, wrote a script about a young Math genius. It eventually became the critically-acclaimed 1997 film Good Will Hunting, which received nine Academy Awards nominations, with Damon being nominated in the Best Actor category. He and Affleck won the Best Original Screenplay for the movie. Damon has also been a part of two successful major film franchises. First, in the remake of the 1960 heist film Ocean s Eleven, which spawned two sequels: Ocean s Twelve and Ocean s Thirteen, and second, in the action movies The Bourne Identity, The Bourne Supremacy, and The Bourne Ultimatum, in which he played the amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne. His future film projects include Margaret, The Informant, and Imperial Life in the Emerald City, which will all be released between 2007 to 2009.
